Summer Marches On

Time flies so quickly.  Here it is the middle of July already, and school will be right around the corner.  The boys are not looking forward to school at all.

Usually my canning starts in August, but I got an early start with these pickled beets a couple of weeks ago.  I thought I would share with you how they turned out.  I am the only one who likes pickled beets, so the 9 bottles I got done should last me the year.

Gotham

Gotham finished.  No helpers for pix so had to put it on the ground.
I quilted it on my "regular" machine - bats. Small ones - above, and a couple of larger ones like below.  Not sure if it shows up in that pix.
I also made a top for the the

Organizing Thread

Do you need some ideas for thread storage? You can find a few on Karen's blog, she is hosting a linking party.
I love to see beautiful collections of thread in pretty displays on the wall. But I can't have one of my own. I don't have too much thread. I don't have enough space. I have cats, so I can't hang anything on the wall.

FreeMotion Challenge – July

The FreeMotion Challenge for July was presented by Angela Walters.  Angela explained her method of FMQ called "Tiles".
It looked easy but when I got to the machine, FAIL!  I can't sew straight in free motion so I had to draw my boxes first. And I think that threw me off,  and I got lost a few times.
I love the look so much though.  I need to practice more.  This photo was my second attempt.
Thanks to Angela

Can you believe it? I'm actually making a quilt!! Another thing you might not believe is that even though I have been quilting for 30 years, I have NEVER, yes NEVER made a quilt for my own bed!  I really wanted to do something vintage, but updated, so here's what I've come up with.

I love vintage barkcloth and other large florals, so I drug them all out and sorted them by size.  Most of the pieces are drapery weight, but I wasn't picky if the right piece was quilting cotton.  Some are even rayon!

Project 52*29

Reid has one of those Mega Block dump trucks, and he's figured out that if he moves the bed of the truck he can convert it to a riding toy.  I guess this is his way around the whole "No-More-Riding-Toys-In-The-House" rule that I tried to set when summer got

French Roses

I couldn't wait to take pictures of this finished quilt top.
I mean one I can show?
That's unheard of lately. :)

I began this quilt about 3 years ago, when my friend Jane was still working for me.
She and
