This trade show was ALL about the people for me.. I do love to see the new fabrics, and tools and patterns, but I mostly love seeing the people... here is my buddy Monica from "The Happy Zombie".. Did you see her ADORABLE new fabric "Winterkist" swoon! I want to have Monica back on the radio show.. what do you want to ask her? I saw my friend Roseann Kermes several times at the show! Spring Quilt Market 2012: Moda – Bonnie and Camille

{ All photos by Ellen Luckett Baker of The Long Thread }

Bonnie (of Cotton Way) and Camille (of quilt pattern company Thimble Blossoms) are definitely the reining superheroes of the fabric world, managing to capture the love and admiration of both the “modern” and “traditional” ends of the quilting spectrum. Their October 2012 collection is called Marmalade, and I say it might lead them to a twofer in March Modern Madness next year. See all the pics on Facebook!

Summer

I don't know about you, but Summer officially starts the day my children get off school. I seem to enter a new world then. There is an unpredictability about my days which can be both invigorating and disconcerting, fun and exasperating, but the boys don't seem to care. They play video games before I wake up, so they can squeeze in more time than the one hour per day allowance, eat chips for breakfast [to my chagrin], and are bored by 9:45 am.

Hey, Look! My Sewing Machine Still Works!

I always have trucks, tractors, and cars floating around my purse.  You just never know when you're out and about and your vehicle-obsessed son needs some entertaining.  I wanted to make a travel car mat that would contain all those little matchbox cars and provide some fun for Reid.  I've seen some basic examples of this concept floating around Pinterest, but I wanted something a bit more intricate.

So I went to work and designed a fat quarter that would do the trick.  The "neighborhood" includes a few houses, a park, a grocery story, ice cream shop, bike shop,

More "Oldies"

Here are another couple of the quilts in my collection.  Since ask.com defines vintage as 20 to 80 years old, I suppose these count as "vintage", as I'm sure they were made in the late 1970's  or early 1980's. Both were made by my mother, Rose.

This basket quilt is one of my favorites, but unfortunately the yellow gingham check she used is not standing up to the test of time.  The quilt has never been used (at least as far as
