Modern Quilts Illustrated

Weeks Ringle and Bill Kerr graciously sent me a copy of their new publication, Modern Quilts Illustrated, to review.  We all know that modern quilts are here to stay!  While traditional quilts will always play a huge part in the quilting world, modern interpretations are showing up everywhere, and are continuing to grow in popularity by leaps and bounds.

When Peggy and I had our new book proposal accepted by the publisher, we were told to focus on modern design for the

Gourds

My first love has always been gourds, I created art with gourds for ten years or more. Until I had major surgery on both hands and couldn't grasp too well. Well...the other day I painted a gourd and oh my it felt good. Here is the result. I hope to be doing more in the near future.  The coiling is done with long leaf pine needles and raffia. Coiling has always been my specialty.

Let’s pretend this never happened

I started listening to the audio version of this book today. I began reading her blog after the giant metal chicken story, this book is written & read by the bloggess herself & it is by far the funniest book I have ever read! I highly recommend it. I was laughing out loud all day!

Oh and one more thing:

Background beginnings

I had a few available hours today, so I dove in and made a start on the background. The basic outlines are now in place. Tomorrow I finish it off!

This was the fourth month of SewCalGal’s 2012 Free-Motion Quilting Challenge. This month guest teacher was Don Linn. He introduced a method of tracing your design onto tulle or netting with a permanent marker, and then using the marked tulle to

3KCWDay3 – Your knitting or Crochet Hero

3KCBWDAY3 - Your Knitting Or Crochet Hero:

For something that is supposed to be simple this subject presents a HUGE quandry..................how does one choose just one?

Well, perhaps I could say that I am inspired by ALL of the knit  / crochet designers, the knit / crochet bloggers, the knit / crochet podcasters, all of the independent fiber artists, & .....................................

Vintage Toy Find

Remember this Fisher Price xylophone toy?  I had one as a child, and bought them for my kids, too.

Found this one at a thrift store for $1.50 - it's in great shape. Only issue is that it looks like a puppy has chewed on the hammer stick. It still works great, though.

Of course, I left it on the kitchen island and without fail, everyone in the family played a tune when

MQX Recap Part 2- What I Bought

As I mentioned in the first re-cap post, I didn't think there were as many vendors at MQX this year than there were when I went before. But it could have been it just seemed that way as the convention center is enormous! But, that didn't stop me from finding lots of great things to buy!  Mostly thread.  And, most of it is boring because I mostly stocked up on staples.

My first stop at MQX is always Superior Threads' booth.  There is always a "deal" and it's worth

WIP Wednesday Week 17 – 4/25/12

So I've missed a few WIP Wednesdays, but I'm back with the few things I've been doing. Good Friday my two good friends Jenn and Emilee and our 4 kids went on a road trip to hit the last 4 shops on the shop hop. Boy did we have a good time. With 4 kids under 5 it took longer, but we did enjoy the park, the waterfall, and a nice walk at lunch time. Plus we had lots of laughs. I couldn't ask for better quilting friends.
I added this pink deep art bin
