Rolling in the Deep

I'm still putting in long days working on the book.  It's amazing how many little details need to be taken care of when you think you're almost done.  I'm so lucky that I LOVE the entire process!  Though it seems that every time I mark something off my "To Do" list, I add two or three more things.

The dogs provide me with breaks - I stop my work, put them on leashes, and walk them around the front yard.  We

quilt scraps for the birds

Yesterday I posted about the trimming of the thousand pyramids pieces.

I got a great Idea from Jean in the comments.  She suggested that all those scraps would make great material for the birds to make nests.  I am going to put them outside and let the birds have them.

Since I had birds on the brain I went outside to check on the robin that has made a nest in the weeping cherry tree in the front yard. I got a picture but the robin was not happy with me!  I

Stuck on the background again

I gathered up my courage and finished quilting the mom’s face and hair. It is a small, but important area. I really wanted it to look nice. I tried giving myself some convincing self-talk so I would quit procrastinating and get it done. In the end, it took the motivation of an impending deadline for me to jump in and do it. So, it is with great relief that all of the main elements are now completely quilted.

But now

More on the road with Pat

Sometimes we find really cute places to take a break like this gas station...totally adorable! I love the old pumps at the door... clean bathrooms AND hot coffee ...they rocked my trip! Sometimes we see cool stuff...like a big Amazon facility!! Then there are times that are less stellar ...like a congested lunch break where we finally found some food and it was barely warm...bleh! But onto the beautiful state of Kentucky ....I am hoping for ice cream.. Pat Sloan

Sourdough French bread

Mmmm! Ever since starting the wonderful Italian culture I bought several months ago, I cannot get enough sourdough!  I adore this culture because it’s not really “sour”… not like San Fransisco sourdough, which I’m not overly fond of.  It make the most killer sourdough waffles ever, and totally kickass bread too!  Why use sourdough if you don’t want the sour taste?  Well for one thing, you don’t have to buy anymore yeast!

I nearly always let it simply rise on a bread board on the counter, and bake

Is There Life After Walmart?

No_walmartThis is Day One of the rest of my life without Walmart. I'm taking the cure. I've had it. The company is distinctly unethical, unAmerican, and uncaring, and unshopper-friendly.

There are so many reasons why I'm fed up to here with Walmart, I just don't know where to start--or even if I want to start.

I remember Sam Walton's Buy American campaign. What happened to that? Do me a favor;
