Purse in Hand

I found this "Purse in Hand" at an antique market here in Connecticut, and it's really growing on me. I added the silk cushion and it's now listed in my Etsy store. The possibility of finding things like this is what drives me to search the antique markets. Okay, flea markets. :) I used to really dislike stuff like this; what's happening to me? First selvages, now this. What's next?

I’m Strip Tubing!

Strip Tubing is a quilting technique developed by The Cozy Quilt Shop out of El Cajon, California (my hometown!) which uses a special ruler and a jelly roll.  It's quick, it's easy and it's beautiful!  Right up my alley!  We just placed an order for more rulers AND some patterns that use the Strip Tube Ruler!

April FMQ Challenge

Here is my sample of the FMQ motif (with some background filler practice too)
This month's expert in SewCalGal's Free Motion Challenge is Don Linn. Here is the link to see the video where Don explains and demonstrates his technique. He shows us how to make a tulle template for transferring a quilting pattern.  I tried this method and I really liked it. I did heat set the permanent marker on the tulle but

Singer 401 cover

I had just enough of the fabric I’d pre-quilted to make the Featherweight cover left over to make a matching cover for my 401, so I did!

I’m not sure I’ll ever bother making full sides for my covers anymore, I think these are every bit as cute and much, much faster to make.  The Soft and Stable by Ann is just really terrific for adding lots of body!  No more slouchy covers!

Long Lost Friends

An old friend that I had lost track of reappeared while I was organizing my studio last week.

Tucked away amongst the boxes and bins in the storage area under the dormer window, I caught sight of this old basket.  My heart started to beat just a little bit faster.

I couldn’t wait to open the lid to catch a glimpse of what was inside.

Best part of eleven hours

Eleven hours, minus breaks and meals. What a luxury! I was able to lavish most of the day on my quilt. I finished the baby, his baby quilt, the arms reaching for him, and his mom’s clothes and hands. Tomorrow morning, when I’m fresh, I’ll tackle the mom’s face and hair, and then I need to go to the drawing board to plan the background sky. I feel good about how much I got done so far. I feel so much less pressured, although I confess I did quite a
