Happy Annivesary Andreas

Today, Andreas and I celebrate 17 years being married (22 years together).

The last year has certainly been a full one for us. A new baby, selling the house that we built, moving into a rental, and all the emotional strain that goes with that. But I have my happy place back (my sewing room) and with it renewed energy to create my little "hobby" businesses into something more sustainable.

We are fortunate to be surrounded by genuine friends who

Ripping and trimming

I looked at the thousand pyramid top for a few days (see previous post) and I could not take it!  The ripping has begun.  I first removed all the chopped up triangles from the edges

Many of these pieces will be joined together to make full triangles.

Using an equilateral triangle ruler I can trim the full triangles to uniform sizes

It looks like if I put the straight grain side of the triangle on the 5.5″ line on the ruler

Day 2 of my Queenstown NZ trip – Arrowtown

As we drove into Arrowtown, which is about a 20 min drive NE of Queenstown, this church was the first stop.

St. Patrick's Catholic Church Arrowtown
The beauty of this gorgeous stone church was definitely enough to want us to stop, but then we noticed other things to interest us.

On backgrounds

Backgrounds. I’ve never liked them. Like I said before, backgrounds are boring. Maybe it’s because I spent so many years just drawing with pencil or Conté crayons, concentrating on just the main image. Somehow that seems fine for a simple drawing, but it doesn’t work so well on painted images.

So, I always end up with the same dilemma. I never quite know how to how to deal with the background, especially in a piece like this. The main image is completely painted, but if I do a watercolor wash

New Quilt in Progress

Here's a quick preview of my latest quilt project.  I'm combining hand-embroidered blocks with repro fabrics.  Loving it so far.  I'll post more pics when it's all done!

57//2012 {{wip}}

- Today at No 3's new swimming lesson I bumped into a friend from university.  We shared a house for a year and had great fun together.  Somehow we drifted apart and hadn't seen each other in 17 years.  We have arranged to meet for coffee soon and truly catch up.  How lovely.

- My sister and I managed to time our walk up the hills perfectly. Before and after the heavens opened.

- Now it's clear again and the sun throws lovely shadows on my wall

MARY’S QUILT TOUR ANNOUNCEMENT

I'm pausing my reports on the Pine Needle piece....as soon as more significant progress is made, I'll share it again.

Instead....Today I want to announce that registration is open for my April 2-10, 2013 Charleston, SC & Savannah, GA Quilt Tour.  Two years ago I hosted a similar trip to the Asheville area and we knew immediately that we wanted to repeat this type of tour by exploring other historic/craft/art/foodie cities.....here in

Simpley2 M blokken

Various & Sundry 2012 #6

Fabric, Tools and Spools
Sorry, I couldn’t help the rhyming. Moda’s Lissa had a great round up of favorite tools from various teachers and other prominent quilting people. She named it April Tools and posted it on April Fool’s Day. Clever, eh?

Ruby is the Modern Madness Champion. Congratulations, Camille! And now she has let us know she is coming out with yet another line of fabric call Marmalade. All I can see is the edges of folded fabric in a big stack. I am in love with the edges. When will it end?

I often
