Flower Power – finished

It didn't take much thought to find a design that would fit the open areas of this Quilt.  I feathered the blocks with great results I think.  As I was binding it, it was claimed by a friend, so for the time being it is available as a custom order

BEING A STUDENT

Before I begin my regular posting again, I want to thank you all for your many, many, many emails and blog comments.  Truly, your kind words went straight to my heart and I'm so grateful for your support.  The reason I shared this sorrow was to remind myself and perhaps you too......make sure your loved ones know how important they are to you....time is not always on our side!

But now...let's talk fiber,

This is my attempt at making an original interpretation of an idea. The boat is meant to be a ghost

I’m drowning in fabric!

This is what my studio looks like at the moment…organized chaos with bins everywhere!  Help!

DSCN0922

A couple of days ago I decided that enough was enough and that it was time to take the bull fabric by the horns selvage and to do something about the disorganization that existed in my fabric bins.

Kansas Star Quilt Block

I found the pattern for this 12" Kansas Star block in the book Kansas Spirit: 15 Historical Quilt Blocks & the Saga of the Sunflower State by Jeanne Poore.  My cousin George Pasley's writing is featured on page 7 of this book.
In these diary entries, Papa, Ted, George, and Hattie attend the Topeka State Fair.  Note that seeing

Long day….

It started out early as I headed to the airport to pick up my brother. Then on to my mother's apartment. We watched as the movers loaded her furniture and boxes on a truck. Then a quick good-bye (I almost succeeded in not crying), and brother and mother drove away to Augusta to her new home.

Such strange feelings I have. I'm a bit melancholy tonight. I hope she is quick to meet new friends. She left some good ones here.

After they left, someone wanted to see our house. So I drove

Girl & Dog to Become New Pincushion

I've been on the lookout for interesting items to make into pincushions. This one came from the Elephant's Trunk Flea Market in New Milford, CT. The inscription on the bottom of this piece seems to say "Rose," and "Germany." It doesn't feel smooth like glass; it's more flat-finished and a little grainy. Maybe it's ceramic. It appears to be old. I'll show you when this becomes a pincushion.

Super Secret Project Sneak Peek

Super Secret Project Back

Super Secret Project Back

I know some of you are sick of hearing about it, but I need to keep it under wraps for awhile longer. I thought I would give you just a little taste of the Super Secret Project I have been working on.

This is the back and I think that Philip Jacobs fabric looks great. The back was not a drama queen either. With a large piece of fabric like that, it went together really fast.

Just as

Postcards from Tuscany.

As a mother of three boys it was only a matter of time before I found myself in a place like this:

I discovered that the same child who doesn't remember his school bag in the morning knows the names of all the models on display. A serious case of selective memory.
