Swooning for my mother

My mother asked me for a quilt that was reminiscent of an aged French Grandmother.
I love Three Sisters for Moda, they're not what you'd call modern, yet I love their soft colours all the same. I have almost finished a quilt top in Martinique, I have a kit in Etchings (yet to be started) and this is predominantly Luna Notte with a little bit of Papillon thrown in for good measure. It seems I'm not very good at finishing anything made from Three Sisters,

Sweet Sophia

It’s been such a long time since I’ve brought her out to play, I thought it was time I did!  I’m not sure why I’ve never bonded with this machine like I have the other vintage Singers, because she is surely the smoothest sounding machine on the planet, and she sews through cloth like a hot knife going through butter.

Simply amazing.

I wanted to try out some of the new presser feet I’ve purchased for my featherweight, since the 201-2 is also a low shank machine and they use all the same feet.  The Greist

Book Review: Showcase 500 Rings

Showcase 500 Rings: New Directions in Art JewelryShowcase 500 Rings: New Directions in Art Jewelry by Marthe Le Van

This is another book I received from Lark Crafts. Thanks, Lark! This particular book is another gem from the Lark 500 series. I love this series, because it is pure eye candy – no patterns, no basics, just fabulous photos of amazing pieces.

As I have mentioned many times, I am not a jeweler, however, I always love the opportunity to review shapes and motifs in a different format. I think it

Product Review: Why Quilts Matter

I’ve had a few very early mornings the last couple days. I woke up around 4 AM for no reason and couldn’t get back to sleep. Usually I go out to the living room and put in a movie that I’ve watched a hundred times, hoping I will be bored back to sleep. This time I noticed my copy of “Why Quilts Matter.” It is a nine-part documentary on quilts, and it has been sitting unwatched on my shelf for several months. I popped

Pat Sloan Focus on the Center Book Tour!

Next up on the book tour is Vanessa Christenson! Vanessa has a clean style that I love. I admire how she can create an amazing project within a modern format that I adore. She is also a brand new fabric designer with Moda.. so she and I will be hanging out at the Moda booth in a few weeks at the trade show! What quilt is on your bed? the quilt on my bed is a simple vintage sheet quilt, I gathered vintage sheets and then added a few fabric squares to tie the colors together. It’s my favorite quilt,...
