Endless Strings

I have sewn 44 - 7" string blocks and hardly made a dent in the string bin, I think the quilt may end up bigger than originally intended.

I am really pleased with how it is coming together.

Happy New Year . . . and What Do YOU Want on YOUR Tombstone?

Happy New Year everyone.   As Halifax Broad said in her blog (see my blog list to check her out), 2011 didn't totally suck.  It was a good-with-a-small-g type year, with good moments and bad.  And it was way better than 2010, hands down.  So here's to 2012 . . . may it be simply stellar!

My grandmother is buried under a lilac tree in a little country churchyard near Woodlands, Manitoba.  Close to her grave is another, with a grave stone obviously put there by a disillusioned partner, as it lists off a litany of complaints about the person buried there.  I'm not one

2011: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly!

Sometimes I sit around thinking that yet again another year has passed by and little has changed. Of course this is not exactly true so I figure I should write some of this stuff down so I remember what I accomplished this year.

1. I earned my Master's Degree in Education in Curriculum Studies. How easy it is to forget! I worked hard for 10 months and received it in the mail this October. Sadly, I couldn't afford the trek East to go to my commencement ceremony.
2. I played in 3 bouts in roller derby this year! In

FREE MOTION QUILTING : PRACTICE PIECE

PRACTICE FOR FREE MOTION QUILTING

I have been trying to get some actually quilting instead of being a fake/ wanna be quilter. My daughter and I pinned some practice pieces to use for me to practice my FREE MOTION QUILTING. My daughter made this quilt from a panel, this is the first time she got her quarter inch seam allowance correct. The panel lies flat. She has design a cute little quilt picking out the fabrics on her own.

A vacation!

For the first time since the kids were born J and I are leaving them with a sitter and going on a vacation together!

J’s Grandmother died  this year (at 90!) and his Grandpa is a ‘snow bird’ (winters in Florida) and he is lonely.  We love that man so much. At 92 he has such vim and vigor and such a dirty mouth that he is fun to hang out with! We decided that we would drive down to Florida to visit him for a few days. He has a condo on the beach so we are looking forward to

End of 2011 and Random Thoughts

Since this is the end of 2011, it is time to evaluate my 2011 Quilty Resolutions.  So, here goes!
  1. Finish the Big UFO in my basement. Good news: There has been significant progress made. Bad news: It is not done yet and becomes 2012 Quilty Resolutions #1.
  2. Finish the photo quilt - Completed last February!
  3. Finish the American Beauty BOM - Well, I am almost done with block 12, the last block - but there is still much to do before it is a completed quilt. This becomes 2012 Quilty Resolutions #2.
  4. Go to the Paducah AQS show - Completed and enjoyed! Due

Task #2 completed, on to Task #3!

You will recall our task #2 set out by Shelly at Prairie Moon Quilts was to find some items from our piles that we can take a few moments (hours) and complete.

I found two items.  First, on my kitchen table pile I uncovered a cross stitch magazine from the UK that had a project that I wanted to stitch.  So I pulled it out the magazine.

Then I looked up the chart.
