Circles Inside a Pieced Background

More circles going on here. Shocker!

Someone in my Craftsy class asked about doing inset circles inside pieced backgrounds. I promised to try and let them know how it worked. What a fun experiment! I took leftover blocks from the Denyse Schmidt class at QuiltCon. No one claimed these early improv efforts and I couldn't let them go to

Miami Valley Quilters’ Guild

mvqg3Tuesday night, I had the opportunity to present a trunk show to my own quilt guild, the Miami Valley Quilters’ Guild.

mvqg1I have been a part of this quilt guild since around 1997. I have been so blessed to be a part of this guild. They bring in top name quilters and have great workshops. They have a terrific library of books that are available to borrow. I learned much of what I know today because

Teaching at The Workroom

It's been a week since I was in this lovely space known as The Workroom. What a delightfully different  quilt store! For one, it is not located in a strip mall or out in the boonies. No, it is on an urban street filled with hipsters and streetcars and bums and roti and taco shops. And it is filled with light. Oh, the light! I imagine those same windows make it stifling in the Toronto summers, but right now it was

Superior Quilt Show

I'm not sure how many people go to Thunder Bay and say they had an awesome time (unless you are from a town in Northern Ontario and Thunder Bay counts as the big city) but I am officially one of them.

Last weekend I spent three days in Thunder Bay. Three very intense and fun days.

Textile Art Alliance

TAA-logoI’ve always been interested in textiles of all types, especially historical and ethnic needlework. I’ve spent hours in many a library pouring over books trying to learn as much as I can about just about anything I can get my hands on. Because of that deep interest, I was so excited to learn about the Textile Art Alliance (TAA), an affiliate group of the Cleveland Museum of Art. I was even more excited when they invited me to come

Where’s your head at?

My (snot-filled) head has been a bit of a whirl these past two weeks.  I taught an AWESOME Print and Sew class at Millrose Cottage and lucked in again with a fantastic group of kids and even a couple of not-kids came along for the fun.20130409_120950
We used Mr Gocco to print a design and then we used that design when we made our own bags.

Des Moines Area Quilter’s Guild

desmoines-1The Des Moines Area Quilter’s Guild had me come to their quilt guild to speak and teach last week. What a great group! They have a daytime and evening meeting. I enjoyed presenting a trunk show for one and lecturing on the Lost Quilt Come Home website and how to protect quilts for the other.

desmoines-2Sweet hubby is always terrific taking care of all the behind-the-scenes things. He

Decatur Quilt Fest

decatur-01I was priviledged to be the featured speaker for the Decatur Quilt Festival recently. It was sponsored by the Decatur Quilters Guild. They held their show at the Decatur Civic Center. It was such a beautiful venue to showcase the 300 quilts that were on display.

They had even more quilts draped over the banister along the walkway overlooking the venue.

They gave me space to display

Improv and Intentions

One of the workshops at QuiltCon I was lucky to get into was Denyse Schmidt's Improv workshop. It was a hot commodity and I had just the right timing when doing my registration. To be honest, I took it out of curiosity more than anything. I'm quite comfortable with improv work, even teaching it myself! But I wanted to see how Denyse taught it and see how people responded.

Frankly, I really enjoyed the class. It may have been the opportunity
