Houses Quilt Finished

I started  hand quilting this quit on June 7 (see post)  And I finished it on July 8.  I am very happy with how it turned out.  As I wrote about earlier the piecing was anything but perfect, there were many puckers, points that didn’t line up, pieces put in upside down, but now that the quilting is all done I think all the flaws are now so much less obvious. since the top was not perfect I did NOT try to make my quilting perfect.  I used larger stitches than I would on a “special” quilt but I

Houses quilt…nearly done

I have almost finished the houses quilt.  I have 2 blocks to finish and then the border and binding.

I will post pictures of the finished quilt as soon as I get done.  When I get this close I find it difficult to stop, but I must admit that my quilting hand is getting tired so it might take a few days yet to finish.

Here are a few more pictures (click to enlarge)

house quilts for sale (but not mine)

My friend Kristen sent me a link to one for sale on eBay so  I decided to see what else was out there on eBay.  I typed in “house quilt” on the search line and I got quit a few examples!  Here a just a few of the many I found.( click pictures to enlarge )

That’ll “quilt out”

I have been working a bit more on the vintage houses quilt (aka school-house/little red school-house, etc.)  One of the challenges with a vintage top that is made by someone else is working around their sewing skills.  Many areas of the vintage top have little (or more than little) pleats or puckers where the pieces were less than successfully eased in to fit.

It could be scary but once quilted it wont show that much, it will “quilt out”.  Here is a block
