Pieced Hexagons

I can’t believe it’s been seven years since the first Inklingo collection came out! It seems like yesterday. In celebration of Inklingo’s anniversary, Linda Franz has posted a fabulous video of 300 pieced hexagons made using various Inklingo collections.

I’ve watched the video a few times and have picked out some pieced hexagons that I know I’m going to make, probably starting this week. On Wednesdays over the next few weeks, there are going to be tutorials on the All About Inklingo blog on designing and sewing pieced hexagons.

LOOSE CHANGE – fun new technique !!!

1e- book- ruler- directions

LOOSE CHANGE — NEW TECHNIQUE FOR PRE-CUTS– LAYER CAKES AND CHARM PACKS by KANSAS TROUBLES QUILTERS, AUTHOR : LYNN HAGMEIER. Of course, I did not follow the pattern exactly. I have a lot of make do patches to use so I am modifying the patterns accordingly. The book has about 5 quilt patterns I really like. I think this will be a great method to make donation quilts because it is really quick and easy.

Blast From The Past

I recently purchased a quilt made entirely out of polyester double knit fabric.   Before you become totally horrified at the thought of that let me explain why.

I believe that these quilts are an important part of quilting history .  Quilting was for a long time assumed to be dying out of popularity.

We tend to think of America’s 200th birthday in 1976 as the beginning of the latest quilt revival.  Jonathan Holstein and Gail van der Hoof began collecting quilts at the end of the 1960s. In 1971 they were able to display the most fascinating of their quilts at the

Le Jardin Quilt.

This is a photo of me looking out the window of my office through the clematis that's happily enjoying the sunshine. You can just see me if you look through the hole in the clematis to where the window is. See- I'm waving! Behind the venetian blinds. Sadly the garden doesn't look like that at the moment- the clematis has gone into hiding for the winter. But luckily there's the Girls Own Stitching Club with it's embroidered flower samplers to keep the spring memories happening. I've been madly sewing the first sampler we did into a block and written the instructions,...

Specialty Mug Rug

IMG_8069wtmk

Remember this little 7 Sisters quilt that’s the size of a 2.5″ hexagon that I made with .50″ 60-degree diamonds?

IMG_8119wtmk

Well, it has turned into a specialty mug rug. A mug rug for Timbits. Timbits are from the Tim Hortons coffee/doughnut chain here in Canada. They’re basically doughnut holes that are pretty much irresistible and come in a variety of flavours. A friend didn’t believe that a Timbit could fit on each one of the tiny stars in the

Rings Quilt Finished

I started this quilt last summer and got back to it this year.  I finished the top on April 22 (see that post here)

I started quilting it on May 5 (see that post here) and I did a short video of the quilting (see that here)

I use about 400 yards of thread on this quilt,   and the quilting took about 10 days (between a few other projects).

I decided to piece the binding with black and white fabric to match the inner border.    The fabric was sewed together in strips
