Baby Girl’s Quilt: The Hoots

Tada!

Quilt Deets:

Pattern name: The Hoots by Amy Bradley
size: 49″ x 59″
fabrics: I do not know – it was a kit with a mix from here there and everywhere.

Finished the second quilt for our Baby Girl.  This one I’ve been slowly working off and on since November of 2012.  This one took a lot of time, but with Nate’s help we got it done.

When Quilt Canada was in Calgary, almost 2 years ago now, I saw this quilt in a booth in the Market.  I walked by

Quilt Binding Tutorial

I've been wanting to do a quilt binding tutorial for some time, but just didn't get around to it. I know there's alot of binding tutorials out there, but you never know so here's my version. I like to do my binding this way to reduce the bulk at the starting point of the binding.

1. Cut all your binding strips to 2 1/4" or 2 1/2". I like narrow bindings so 2 1/4" is my standard binding size. I am making a scrappy binding so my strips are not the same.

Baby Girl’s Quilt – Hopscotch

I’m sorry for my absence on the blog lately.  We haven’t had our baby yet, but it is close – very close.  And because we are so close, we’ve been very busy.  Car seats to install, bags to pack, packing list items to get, nurseries to finish, etc.

Luckily though I was able to finish the nursery and our baby girl’s quilts and I wanted to share with you one of the quilts.

This quilt is called Hopscotch and the pattern comes from a couple of gals in Moosejaw, SK, who own a company called The Quilt Patch.    They are

I tried to resist the call of all the wonderful scrap quilts out there... but I knew from the beginning it was a futile effort.

Blast From The Past

I recently purchased a quilt made entirely out of polyester double knit fabric.   Before you become totally horrified at the thought of that let me explain why.

I believe that these quilts are an important part of quilting history .  Quilting was for a long time assumed to be dying out of popularity.

We tend to think of America’s 200th birthday in 1976 as the beginning of the latest quilt revival.  Jonathan Holstein and Gail van der Hoof began collecting quilts at the end of the 1960s. In 1971 they were able to display the most fascinating of their quilts at the

Rings Quilt Finished

I started this quilt last summer and got back to it this year.  I finished the top on April 22 (see that post here)

I started quilting it on May 5 (see that post here) and I did a short video of the quilting (see that here)

I use about 400 yards of thread on this quilt,   and the quilting took about 10 days (between a few other projects).

I decided to piece the binding with black and white fabric to match the inner border.    The fabric was sewed together in strips

Dogwood Blossom Quilt Top

A new vintage quilt top today.  The pattern is called Dogwood Blossom

Dogwood Blossom

This top is 70″ x 83″  and mostly hand pieced.

The piecing is not the best work but I will do some adjusting on that.

Schnibbles Gentle Art

I hope you all had a wonderful Mother's Day yesterday. Mine had a few surprises so it was wonderful.
It's been so hot for the past few days. I have been doing more papercrafting then sewing since my shoulder issues. My shoulder feels like it's better so I am going to attempt to cut and sew my Schnibbles Gentle Art quilt. Hopefully my shoulder will cooperate because I really miss sewing.
I still have a bunch of these fabrics from Dena Designs called London. I am going

Red and White Applique Blocks

Today I got a group of antique quilt blocks from eBay.  It is difficult to date the blocks because the fabric is  solid red and white.  Printed fabrics are much easier to date based on the design.  These I will just call old.

The blocks are not completed.  The pieces were cut out and basted to the squares, but I will need to do the applique.  You may remember that I hate to applique….but I could not resist these blocks!

One of the blocks has the applique started.
