Fall Quilt Market 2012: Birch Fabrics

Birch Fabrics is growing by leaps and bounds. Go Birch Go! Coming this season they’re expanding into new substrates and bringing on new licensees, including a very huge name.

Jay-Cyn Designs will have three variations on a theme in three fabric types: organic quilting cotton, organic cotton canvas, and organic cotton knit. The home decor canvas collection is called The Grove, and it includes a patchwork cheater-type print as its centerpiece. I love the color palette of mustard and navy, light

Fall Quilt Market 2012: Stof

Stof has been a major supplier of fabric to Europe since the 1970s. Based in Denmark, they recently started exporting to the US.

Their Pure collection shares some obviously Scandinavian DNA with Lotta Jansdotter’s last two collections. The colors are bright in a classic kind of way – check out the navy and red:

{ I was convinced that a navy blue was going to be Pantone’s 2013 Color of the Year! }

This is La Couture, a lovely linen in

Fall Quilt Market 2012: Moda

At market, Moda is a fixture and they often have a fun and whimsical theme to welcome you into their section of the floor, and they have a big compound of booths! This market they had a theme of Glamping and color. The dip-dyed paint stirrers were my favorite part of their area. It’s a nice respite from those flourescent lights and booth dividers.

Moda often has a large assortment of collections that they announce and this market was no different. Some new faces as well as some regular favorites are back with collections

Fall Quilt Market 2012: Michael Miller – Basics and Brights

It’s the economy, it’s the modern quilt movement, it’s the trend … whether it’s one of these or all of these things, the theme of this market was definitely Back to Basics. Several companies emphasized solids and versatile basics, and just the pure joy of color color color. Having fabrics with longer shelf lives is not only for the manufacturer’s benefit — it’s something I often hear retailers, designers, and consumers wishing for these days. Michael Miller’s variation on this theme was a happy and bright one, with some trendy

Spring Quilt Market 2012: Robert Kaufman – Kona Solids

Modern Quilting is taking over and Robert Kaufman‘s Kona Cotton Solids have always been a big part of this movement. The RK booth was a big celebration of the Modern Quilt Guild and the new book We Love Color: 16 Iconic Quilt Designers Create with Kona Solids. They are upping the solids ante with 28 new colors, which will be shipping this month in charm pack form to a store near you.

Edited to add: Ha, this is
