Blije Olifantje

I’ve thought before that it would be a great (and different) concept for a fabric shop to hoard fabric until it is sold out everywhere else, and only then put that stock up for sale. It’d be extremely difficult to pull that off without a crystal ball, though. Somehow, Blije Olifanje (Happy Elephant) on Etsy seems to be in possession of one. It’s a shop specializing in rare, out-of-print, and hard-to-find fabrics. No ultra-coveted Jennifer Paganelli Loopy Vintage Floral, but lots of Yuwa and Kei, Heather Ross, Michael

Fall Quilt Market 2012: More Alexander Henry

Here’s what else Alexander Henry has coming now through Spring 2013. Africa captures my favorite color story at the moment – burgundy, bright pink, rust, and mustard. I love their interpretation of African textiles. I also think that zebras may very well be a new Hot Animal, maybe having to do with the film version of Life of Pi coming out?

Fall Quilt Market 2012: Alexander Henry – Lawns and Fashion for Home

{ Lydia }

There were lots of fashion fabrics at Quilt Market that I intend to snatch up as soon as they are out — Alexander Henry‘s new round of their Lake Hollywood Cotton Lawns are chief among them.

Fall Quilt Market 2012: Alexander Henry

Alexander Henry‘s booth centered around their new collection Somerville, which is arriving in stores now. I didn’t get to hear about the inspiration behind it, but the booth (to me) was like an eccentric retiree fantasyland. Somerville Study, the bookshelf print, is supported by florals that seem to combine a mixture of cultural and historical influences (AH’s speciality!). The booth also had an element of 70s needlework and setabouts, and faux birds in ornate cages. I’d love to hear your interpretation! Somerville comes in three colorways and is printed on AH’s

Fall Quilt Market 2012: Bring out your ‘stache!

Seen any good mustaches lately? If you haven’t, just wait until the end of the month. November is MOVEMBER, the month where facial hair sprouts in support of awareness of men’s health, specifically prostate and testicular cancers. The gentlemen grow their mustaches for thirty days, and the ladies gamely smile though itchy smooches. One can only hope that the month brings more Magnum PI sex appeal than forlorn Snidely Whiplash whiskers!

A few of the fabric designers have hopped on the mustache trend, delivering sassy additions to the trend.

Timeless Treasures have a Menswear collection that includes a great mustache

Alexander Henry: Olympia

Alexander Henry Olympia

Alexander Henry‘s new collection Olympia is not about the Olympics exactly, but it seemed a propos to show it to you during the games. Some of the prints, including the trippy-chevrons-with-transparency Tropolis, are printed on Super Shirting, AH’s newish super-soft, drapey plain weave cotton that will work for apparel or quilting. Pink Chalk Fabrics has it all — thanks to them for the photo!
