Due to some unforeseen (but good!) circumstances, we will have to wait a little longer for the rest of Lauren‘s Quilt Market posts. In the meanwhile, I’ll resume the regular posting schedule and try to start catching you up on the fabric news that has built up in the weeks since Market.

First up, I was thrilled to find out that my book A Field Guide to Fabric Design is now available for Kindle, iBook, and Nook editions, so now you can enjoy the e-version on your device/tablet/smartphone of choice. I’ve heard a few people say they’ve read the book cover-to-cover on an airplane, so this should come in handy for future travelers. I’m also hoping the format will come in handy for quick reference during design classes and sewing/quilting groups. If you’ve downloaded it, I hope you’ll let me know what you think!

Slow Blog Tour stop #2! Michelle Fifis of the highly magnificent blog Pattern Observer asked me to participate in a webinar interview. She had some students from her e-classes listening in and messaging questions to us at the end. I also ask Michelle about how she started Pattern Observer, and about her design work. She is a freelance surface pattern designer who works directly for companies, rather than going the licensing route. Both of these ways of doing business are still a bit mysterious to me as I’m most familiar with the quilting/lifestyle fabric world. So if you’re interested in breaking in to pattern design work, I think you’ll find the discussion valuable.

It’s official, the book is OUT! Pre-order-ers got their copies last week, and now it’s shipping immediately from Amazon. I received three boxes full this weekend, and I have to say that even though I have had an advance copy for some time, nothing prepares you for the thrill of seeing a big stack of them on your table. WOW. I wanted to take pictures of the boxes arriving and me opening them, but a) I wasn’t home and b) they were delivered Fedex rather than UPS, so my plan for a shot of my UPS-guy-who-looks-like-Roger-Sterling holding a copy of my book was blown. You will just have to imagine it.

The Stash Books Blog has a wonderful introductory post and giveaway. And there are a couple reviews already:

I do sometimes consider the fiber content, but never thought about where the pattern came from, the designer, the choice of colors and how the design gets put on the fabric. The book is coming very soon! I made forum to serve as its companion, a place to go to ask questions about fabric design, to share your work, to find new resources and inspiration, and to be whatever else it morphs into. Once the book is out I plan to post downloads there, like free patterns, a screenprinting exposure test file, and more. Thanks very much to my early adopters — signups and postings have gone smoothly so far, so I’m ready to open it up to the world!
