Dear Pioneer Woman

A Pioneer Fourth

Dear PW:

I am 26 and got married last July to my closest friend from college. He’s an amazing guy. Unfortunately I was in love and in a relationship with someone else but marriage was not in our cards for various reasons. In the end I was forced to give up on it and move on. It’s been terribly hard. Because what we shared had been special to both of us.

I am learning to move on but sometimes I get lost and I wonder how it would’ve been

A Busy Time on the Ranch

We’re smack-dab in the middle of one of the busiest times of the year here on the ranch. We’ve gotten up before five every morning this week, and the days have been very, very long. In the cracks (I said cracks. Huh huh.) I’m trying to get my garden planted, our roof repaired, my junk drawers cleaned out, our building project moving forward, and am pushing hard to finish my new cookbook while also gearing up to start shooting new shows here on the ranch soon. Marlboro Man and I pretty much touch feet as we’re passing out every night

PW Q & A. OK? 10-4.

mealexsmallNote from PW: This won’t be as gripping as the Q & A with Marlboro Man on Friday, so if you want to close this window without even reading the post, I will completely understand. I just wanted to get these questions out of the way before tomorrow, when I’ll post a big Dear Pioneer Woman installment answer a bunch of your general life/advice questions. It’s a biggie!

Q. How is Mike? You haven’t mentioned him in a while. I love to read about your experiences with him and his

Mammaries

Good morning!

In case you’re in need of a little strangeness, here’s a small handful of some weird moments here on Confessions of a Pioneer Woman.

It’s by no means representative of the total sum of weirdness that exists here. It is but a wee glimpse.

WEIRD MOMENTS

1. Grandma Iny’s Booger: This is a story about my beloved great-grandma and me. It might make you a little queasy.

tanner2. Tanner the Barbie Dog: I don’t think this is on the market anymore.

3. Juice

Seven Years

freakI’ve been blogging for seven years.

I started blogging seven years ago.

Seven years ago…I started blogging.

In some ways, it feels like only yesterday. In other ways, it seems like forever ago.

Over the next few days, I’ll be highlighting random things from the past seven years and doing fun things here and there across the site to celebrate. For this post, I’ve thought about ways I could sit down and write a recap of the last seven years, but my brain misfired because

Gathering Herefords

Working HerefordsThe other day, Tim needed to work calves. Marlboro Man and Tim hauled the kids and their horses around to the back side of the pasture so they could start gathering, then they drove back to the pens, rode out, and joined them.

In the Tub

Without Their Older SistersOnce the boys got all the cattle rounded up and herded into the pens, the real work began. They guys were processing the cattle to get ready for the spring and summer grass by worming them, etc, which meant the younger men (pictured above) had to keep the cattle moving in the direction of the working chute.

Working Without the Girls

Marlboro Man has entered into a very busy time on the ranch, with many, many cattle to work.

Last week, on the eve of one of the most packed days of working he’d scheduled, our two daughters got hit with a wicked sinus infection and had to lie in bed and moan and text me from their beds and ask me to bring them soup all day.

I needed to go to a rest home by the time they were all healed up.

His Name is Kitten Kitten

Gee and the BoysHis name is Kitten Kitten
I love him; he’s so sweet.
He likes to sit in planters
And look for things to eat.

Gee and the BoysHe sees something: A critter!
A bird? Maybe a mouse?
Or maybe it’s a wee snake
Slithering toward the house.

A Throwdown Memory

TPW_4304Many of you might remember that a few years ago, I participated in a Throwdown with Bobby Flay. It was a raucous, riotous experience marked by cutthroat competition and many tears, and it truly was a blast. And when it was all over, I slept for a month.

Giving birth to four children had done very little to prepare me for the demands of such a challenge.

I could recap a lot of things about the Throwdown, things like what a genuinely nice
