Friday Favorites: Ball Jars and A Beautiful Mess App

Two great finds this week- combined here!  I'd heard that Ball was going to be launched vintage inspired blue Mason jars, but didn't know if they'd show up locally.  So happy to find them at Target yesterday.  I thought $9.99 for six was a little spendy, but as a longtime fan, I decided I HAD to have them.  (BTW, they're also at Amazon, but more expensive.)

They're really beautiful, and have a special anniversary imprint.  Great blue color.

Now, what to do

Adventures in PomPom Land: Craft Book Review

Adventures in PomPom Land by Lark Crafts is a roundup of tons of cute little creatures you can make from PomPoms.

Brings me back to my childhood, when I started my entrepreneurial crafty ways by making pompom chicks for 25 cents each.  My neighbor bought them from me to give to her dance students.

This book's projects are a bit more advanced.  In fact, Adventures in PomPom Land has 25 different critter projects you can made

Drive-By Lilac Snatching?

Confession time.  Depending on your perspective, I may have committed a crime today.  I prefer to think of it as community outreach.

Background:  I love lilacs - they're my all-time favorite flower and scent.  Growing up, our neighbors had a lilac bush that grew along our shared fence.  Each year, around my birthday in April, it bloomed, and I would cut a few stems and bring them into my room (which was painted lilac purple, BTW).

Even after I moved away, I'd still

Summer Table Runner

Here's a new table runner I made for my oldest (as in known her since high school) friend, Donna.  She picked out the ants fabric, and I added the rest.  I'm calling it the summer picnic table runner.

I like how the ant fabric sort of looks like a picnic blanket.  I chose the red and green rick rack to echo the watermelon fabrics.

It was so fun to make that now I'm making one for me, too.

Used one of my

Star Wars Day: May the 4th Be with you

Happy Star Wars Day, May the 4th be with you.  I couldn't resist!  I love wordplay...and puns...and knock knock jokes. :)  And, of course I live with 3 males who all love Star Wars (I think that's a genetic thing, comes on the Y chromosome).

Recently, I bought new Star Wars fabrics to use for some laptop covers in my Etsy shop.

My youngest son immediately noticed, and asked for me to make him something with them.  Funny, he's

Typewriter Pillows

Typewriters are one of my favorite vintage collectibles.  I have 2, an old Underwood and a teal Remington that I cherish.  So, naturally, I had to buy this typewriter fabric from Windham

I thought it would be fun to make some pillows featuring the typewriters and speech bubbles.  So, here they are, Love and Home, which are listed in my Etsy shop.  I can also do custom versions if you're interested.

Vintage Suitcase Studio Storage

I have quite a collection of vintage suitcases.  They previously lived (empty) in my living room as display.  I decided they'd be more useful to hold fabric in my studio.  These cool suitcases a perfect storage solution, as they're pretty, and hold a lot of stuff.  I love adding vintage touches throughout my Quilted Cupcake studio!

My suitcases hold odd fabrics, such as burlap, or vinyl, and even my stash of interfacing.  These items don't look pretty on a shelf, so they are perfect choices for hiding inside the vintage suitcases.  I

Signature Styles Book Review

I love to peek into other artists' studios for inspiration and storage ideas.  With over 350 pins, my Creative Spaces and Studios Board is probably my #1 favorite Pinterest board and one that I revisit often.  So, I was intrigued by the book Signature Styles by Jenny Doh.

It's a Lark Crafts book that gives you a behind-the-scenes look into the studios of some of my favorite crafters, including Elsie Flannigan, Betz White,

DIY Lamp Shade Upcycle Projects & Chandys

I'm a bit obsessed with lamp shades and chandeliers lately.  If you could see the stack of lampshades in my studio, you'd think I was opening a lamp store.  I've just been so inspired by them lately.

Here's a chandy I made for my studio from an old lampshade:

Pennant Pillow

Whoops! Got too busy with life to post this week's entry into Pillow Palooza.  It's a pennant pillow!

This idea has been on my to-do list for a while now.  I made each little pennant, and then sewed them to the ric rac.  My favorite part is that they're only sewn to the pillow at the top - so they're moveable.  Not like my pillows spend time in the wind, but if they did, those flags would fly, baby!
