Another Pieced Hexagon

IMG_8256wtmk

I couldn’t resist making another pieced hexagon. This time all pinks and white and made up of nothing but triangles from the 1.5″ 60-degree diamond Inklingo shape collection.

IMG_8251wtmk

It began with six pink half triangles and six white half triangles.

IMG_8249wtmk

That were stitched together to form 6 of these units.

Which were then stitched together to form

A Caribbean Sunflower

IMG_8243wtmk

For some reason, this one makes me think of the Caribbean. A comment left last week on one of the sunflower posts about the quilt being of different seasons of sunflowers has me thinking about possibly arranging the blocks by season when they’re all done. If I do that, this one would definitely be a summer one. It’s one of my favourite batiks. I was so glad I had enough of it left to make a sunflower.

With each one of these that I make, I’m finding it’s faster and

Another Pieced Hexagon

IMG_8228wtmk

This one is another of the 3″ pieced hexagons. It was very quick to stitch, taking only a few hours.

IMG_2402wtmk

It began with six half 1.5″ 60-degree diamonds in pink and six half 1.5″ 60-degree diamonds in white.

IMG_8221wtmk

They were stitched into diamonds.

Then three pink thirds of a .75″ hexagon and six cream thirds of a .75″ hexagon.

Revisiting the Patchwork of the Crosses Blocks

100_0977wtmk

For months and months I have been wondering what I would use for the 2″ squares that will be used to connect my Patchwork of the Crosses blocks, some of which were last seen in this photo. And while I wondered, there were six blocks waiting for their frame of cream hexagons and purple 1″ connector squares and two more that just needed their 1″ purple connector squares added. I think I hit on the solution – a very pale yellow that I think is going to work for

Very Subdued Sunflower

IMG_8215wtmk

I said the next one was going to be subdued in comparison to yesterday’s orange sunflower. And this one is. But if I’m going for a colour-wash effect with these blocks, there will be some very subdued, muted sunflowers.

I’m finding putting these together is quicker with each one I make. Putting the ring of diamonds and triangles together, with all the opportunities for continuous stitching, is very fast as each little seam is just one load of stitches on the needle. Once that’s done all that’s left is some

A Sunny Orange Sunflower

IMG_8213wtmk

It’s orange. And cheerful. And sunny. And it’s one more of the 6″ sunflowers to add to the little stack of finished blocks.

IMG_8214wtmk

Seams pressed and graded.

And the next one will be very subdued in comparison. Very, very subdued.

Do you remember when I showed this glorious stack of Paris Flea Market FQs that I received? I’m still dithering over what I’m going to make with them. The initial thought was tumbling stars. Then I flirted

Another Tiny Seven Sisters Block

IMG_8207wtmk

Or is it another pieced hexagon? It’s both. I couldn’t resist and have decided to make another miniature quilt, this time with tiny Seven Sisters blocks. They’re fun to stitch, although I don’t think I’d want to make these with anything but batiks. With batiks, there’s no worry about centres of the stars being too bulky. For this block, I used shapes in the .50″ Inklingo 60-degree diamond collection. There are a lot of seams in this little 2.5″ pieced hexagon as there are 66 pieces in

Sunflowers

IMG_8198wtmk

Eleven little sunflowers done. Actually, there are 14 that have been completed but 3 of those 14 were turned into mini quilts. I clearly can’t get enough of making these 6″ sunflower blocks. Seeing this picture has already convinced me I need to do a few more pale ones for the centre of the little quilt.

I’m learning that not all batiks are created alike. Some of them are a bit harder to needle than others. But they’re all worth the time and effort as I love the effect I’m

Another Pieced Hexagon

Last night, after cutting the shapes for a few more sunflowers, I decided it was time to make another pieced hexagon.

IMG_8192wtmk

This is a rather large hexagon for me – it’s a 3″ hexagon composed of 30 pieces, all from one 60-degree diamond collection – triangles, half triangles and half diamonds. I saw this one on one of the blog posts on pieced hexagons on the All About Inklingo blog and knew I had to make it. This is going to be a long-term project but I’m already thinking

Little 9-Patch Blocks on Point

IMG_8190wtmk

While I am working on getting all the pieces for the sunflowers cut out and ready to stitch, I haven’t been stitching much. But last night I felt like doing some simple stitching for a little while, so added the triangles to four of the 3″ 9-patch blocks which haven’t been worked on since last fall.

They’re a quick stitch by hand to add the triangles and turn them into 4.25″ blocks, so I may just work on these for a few nights while I continue cutting the shapes for
