Spreading around the quilty love

I made a flag for Boston,
following the template set out by the Vancouver Modern Guild.
My little flag has a string heart on one side
and three smaller hearts on the other side.
If you want to make one, the deadline to get them to Boston is still a few weeks away.

Has anyone seen my rotary cutter?

It must be somewhere underneath all my fabric, but I can't find it.

I forgot to sign up for the scrap exchange over at 15 minutes play,
but it turns out I didn't have to.
My neighbour gave me a huge bag of goodies from her SIL.
It's a bit overwhelming, but a couple of hours of

I’m not sure it worked

I'm regretting the machine quilting on this project.
I had a vision of all over straight line quilting
so it wouldn't distract from the words,
but I don't think it worked.
What do you think?
I'm going to take it to my guild meeting tonight for in person

Hang on ’til tomorrow

I've just finished sewing five maid pinafores for the musical Annie,
to be put on my son's high school later this month.
I've been a garment sewer ever since
my Barbie and Beautiful Chrissy needed new wardrobes.

Stay tuned for glimpses of a sari I'm turning into a drapey jacket
for a special event next

Still snow to dye for

These as my recent adventures in snow dyeing with Procion dyes.
I dyed two lengths of unbleached muslin,
and the one at the right is an overdyed white with black print.

For lots of you, snow dyeing is over for the season, but not for me.
See that bright white stuff in the background?

Strip piecing for a cause

I love string quilts. They're true scrap quilts,
using up bits and pieces
and somehow looking great in the end.
And string quilts motivated me to start this blog
and inspired the name as well.

I've  been making 6 by

Sparkling patchwork

Click for a closer view.
yes, this is a cross made from costume jewelry.
A group of seniors made a series of three
for their church nearly 40 years ago.
This one has lots of those rhinestone broaches and other beauties.
I wonder what it cost the makers to donate their favourites?

Playing with fun fabrics on International quilting day

I know the National Quilting Association declared this
but by the power vested in me
as a Canadian quiltmaker,
I'm declaring this
International Quilting Day.
Go and quilt some more!

Thanks Mom, for these fun fabrics
from California.
Having fabrics from the next country over
really makes it International Quilting
